Nossa Senhora do Salto
is a big valley in the Sousa river with a Chapel and
a Sanctuary. It is nearby of Porto at the Paredes administrative
region. Salto is in the Highway road A4 between Oporto and Penafiel. Is
one of those typical places in the portuguese mountains. Cliffs are in both
margins of Sousa River.
How to go there :
If you go from Oporto take the highway road A4 to Penafiel. After
passing Valongo, get out the highway at sign of CAMPO/RECAREI, taking the old
road to Penafiel and a little after turn right to Recarei. Go in this road near
the valley of Sousa river. Before Aguiar de Sousa take another road left going
down to the chapel. Arriving to the bridge use the printed croquis to
identify the cliffs . The road is good but ou can also take a bus from Porto
to Aguiar de Sousa village, or a train to arrive at the Recarei rail way
station.
Staying
Is not possible free camp in the area unless you get a licence or at an
hidden place. There are touristic hostages in Recarei or Aguiar de Sousa.
Oporto is not to much far from here. It will take around half an hour to
travel . Go and stay in Oporto if you want to enjoy the night life .
Rock type
Rock is of schist. Cliffs are between 20 and 100 meters. Almost all of them
are partially equipped . So, some belay stations are not equipped and you
must use rocks and friends. Only in sector B you get the "Suaves Prestações -
100 m" route equipped in the belay points.
Routes
Routes are grading between 4c and 7a ( U.K Grading System) , and require
some thechnics. Routes are not safe for beginners.
