BREJO - Near of Pampilhosa da Serra city 80 Km from
Coimbra
Brejo is in "Serra da Estrela" mountain 10 Kilometres from "Pampilhosa da
Serra" village.
Brejo routes are not equipped and are only in number of four just for
private climbing wall to spend time. Tops are easy to access . Routes have
10 meters high and are good for children practice. Rock is of gris limestone
but I recommend the use of an helmet , because there are some free stones in the
routes.
To go to Brejo, you must go to Pampilhosa da Serra which is in
centre of Portugal. Use the portuguese road map . In Pampilhosa, take the
road to Castelo Branco. Some 7 km later you will arrive to a road
intersection with a sign saying " Barragem de Santa Luzia ", which is a dam to
energy production at river Unhais. Travelling around 3 Km more in direction
to the dam there is another intersection, at Relvinha place - there is no houses
here - turn right, to Brejo , following the sign . Going for more 800 meters,
arriving to the cemetery curve, take the course at right and go for 200 meters
until the end of the course. You can let your car at the cemetery park and
walk these 200 meters. Down on the right you will see the cliff.
Fajão - is 18 Km from Pampilhosa da Serra village.
Fajão routes are equipped by local climbers : Pedro Pimentel and Tiago
Martinho. There are 10 routes in solid granite with difficulties between IV e
7a . Some of the routes have tops accessible .
To go to Fajão, you must take the way to Pampilhosa da Serra
village. Choose the High-way between Lisbon and Oporto and get out to Pombal
city. Pay attention to the signs ! In Pombal, ask for -road IC 8 to Castelo
Branco city . Travel in IC8 some 80 Km until the intersection to Pampilhosa
da Serra. Pay attention to this sign because it will surprise you on the curve !
Another way to go to Pampilhosa, is coming from Coimbra to Castelo Branco,
travelling trough the mountain of Lousã, which is nice.
When you arrive to "Pampilhosa da Serra", take the road in direction to
Coimbra, and travel for some 8 Km to the village of Moradias, where you will
find an intersection road to " Soeirinho" . ( Those coming from Coimbra, do not
need to go to Pampilhosa da Serra . They just turn to left to Soeirinho at
village of Moradias ) .
In Soeirinho, go in front in the principal road following the sign in a
stone on the ground saying " Fajão ". Go more 12 Km to Ceroquinho until you
begin to see the mountain of Ceroquinho shown in the photo. Turn at the
first sign to Ceroquinho. Atention now, because you will find a second sign to
Ceroquinho where you do not turn !... Go in front until you reach the sign shown
in the photo . The routes are just there, in the "wall". Go to the cliff
and try to find a course in the thicket to the routes at your right. We are
waiting for the route guide of this place.
