Montejunto is one of the greatest mountains north of Lisbon just in centre
west of Portugal, as you can see in the map.
Some clean cliffs offer good
conditions for climbing. Climbing in Montejunto is not authorised in months
between January and August, because is a protected area of nesting as the sign
near the routes advises. On first day of August you can begin .
If you depart
from Lisbon go at 10 a.m., because in this time of the year, mornings are very
cold and fogy in Montejunto and climbing is good at the afternoon. From Lisbon
to the sign saying ALENQUER CARREGADO are around 40 Km, travelling the high-way
to north. At this kilometre count pay attention at your right.
Ho to go there :
From any place you be in Portugal, you must go direct to Alenquer, which is
a well known town in Portugal.
The best way to travel along the country is using the A1 High-way between
Porto and Lisbon. Get out this motor-way at the sign saying ALENQUER CARREGADO
.
Enter the road N1 (National road number one) to Alenquer,
and follow the dot line of road in the map.
In Alenquer don't turn left to the valley, that goes to the centre of the
village ! Follow in front, to see the village at your left just in the valley.
See the map and follow the dotting indication.
Passing the sign saying "Ota " keep going in front and don't turn to
Ota. Pay attention to the next road intersection, where you must
turn to left in direction to Abrigada, Montejunto and Torres Vedras as you see
in the picture.
Arriving to Abrigada go through the village until this sign to Montejunto
.
Some 6 Kilometres later you will see Montejunto.
The next road intersection says Montejunto, Merceana ,
Torres Vedras. Go in this direction.
Go more 500 meters from this sign(above), looking down at your right is
Pragança village.
Just stop at the end of this 300 meters because you are in the middle of big
trees and the cliff is at your left like the picture.
You arrived ! ... Stop the car and walk trough a small course to the
cliff.
RESUME - Go to 1-Alenquer, 2-Abrigada, 3-Montejunto,
4-Cliff.
Staying
Is not possible to camp . You can look for a cheap hostage in Abrigada or
Alenquer. If you arrive at 11 am, take a lunch with you and spend all the
afternoon climbing.
Rock type
Rock is type gris limestone with holes .
Routes
There are around 25 routes of medium high level 6a to 7b and highness varies
between 10 and 27 meters. Routes are oriented to west they are hot in Summer and
very cold in winter. All routes are well equipped
